I have promised I will post some details related to a `SS Lebensborn` pin I have found here in Norway. I have this pin from a woman – now in her 70s – born at a Lebensborn hospital once located one hour outside Oslo. This pin was found in her mother’s belongings. Her mother was Norwegian and her father a German soldier (Wehrmacht NCO). In the last stages of the war he was sent to the eastern front. He survived the war and returned to Germany. The family managed to track him trough the Norwegian embassy in West-Germany in the 1970s but he did not want to have any contact with his “Norwegian family” as he had a new family in Germany.
The pin did not just suddenly turn up. She remembers to have seen this pin for decades. I asked if she remembers any story related to the pin and if her mother told her anything related to this. But “no, it has just always been there…”.This design has been classified as a fantasy piece by collectors. Yes there are reproductions of this pin/design but there are also originals.
In a thread named Lebens Born from 11-16-2001, 04:05 AM I have read a post by late Bjørn Jervås. I quote this as I find his post very interesting and relevant for this thread. Bjørn wrote:
Bjørn who had a well of knowledge is no longer among us so I can’t ask him for details. But after seeing the Lebensborn pin the Norwegian woman in her 70s found I think I know what kind of badges Bjørn meant. This was the very first thread related to Lebensborn on this forum. These days collectors "fantasy item myth" has rooted on this item.
This is the original pin found here in Norway. I have also taken some detailed photos of this pin (those on white cotton pad):
